Christmas tree
A Christmas tree is an evergreen conifer (for example a blue spruce or a Nordmann fir) that is set up in churches, public places as well as private homes in order to celebrate Christmas. The tree is usually decorated with a variety of ornaments such as fairy lights, candles, baubles, tinsel and little figures. Setting up a Christmas tree is a custom that has been developed in Germany and started to spread all over the world during the 19th century.

The Nordmann fir has become more and more popular during the last years as it is known for its soft fir needles and persistence. Especially this last characteristic encourages a lot of people to set up the tree early and to enjoy the spirit of Christmas during the complete Advent season. As a Nordmann fir is growing much slower than a red or blue spruce, the price that has to be paid for a Nordmann fir is also a bit higher than the one paid for a spruce. Normally it takes the Nordmann fir 12-15 years to reach the ceiling.
